Chikankari is a traditional embroidery style of Lucknow which exquisitely balances beauty and delicate style of embroidery. It is known to be crafted on variety of fabrics mostly on crepe chiffon, Georgette and silk but one point of consideration is that the fabric has to be light in color and texture to highlight the patterns of embroidery. Now a days mukaish, sequins beads and mirrors are also used to enhance the beauty. Though one can use chikankari dresses on various occasions but personally here are my five favorite styles.
Chikankari Kurta With Chudidar
A chikankari kurta can give a very classy and elegant looks even for casual outings if teamed up well. You can team it up with Chudidar or leggings ,you can try an exclusive all-white look or contrast color bottom. An evening out for a coffee with friends, shopping or visit to your kid’s school are some good occasions for these styles. you can further glow in style by adding small metallic Jhumkas to complete the look.
Chikankari Kurta with Cigarette Pants or Palazzo Pants
A long chikankari kurta looks gracefully stylish with white cigarette pants or white palazzo pants and can be used formally as well as casually depending on your preferences. This style can be accessorized with a variety of jewelry depending on the occasions.
Chikankari Kurta and Sharara
This is a beautiful, ornate and delicate party look. I suggest you to team it up with colorful jewelry, a nice choker or beautiful Chand Balis. If you are already having a kurta and dupatta set you can get a Sharara made in contrast color or similar color but if you want a complete ready made set you have to find it out in designer stores. Price may range anywhere between Rs 20000 to Rs 50000 depending upon the fabric and the craftsmanship.
Chikankari Long Dresses
A well fitted full length Chikankari dress can make you look different and stately in the crowd. You can choose the cut according to your body shape. Chikankari long dresses are not readily available in market and most of the time only available as designer piece or have to be custom made. Cost may range between Rs 20000 to Rs 50000.
Chinkaria Anarkalis are never out of fashion and can be worn for evening parties. I prefer to wear pastel shades for any quiet evening events like classical music evening. There are lots of stitched and an unstitched chikankari Anarkali available in the market , I prefer pure Georgette fabric because it falls beautifully and enhances any body shape. Price roughly falls between Rs10000 to Rs12000.
